Artwork description:
The design of this piece is mainly a combination of medallion patterns and Drakhti. Drakhti means "tree pattern" and is a pattern featuring the "tree of life", which is a symbol of life. The design of this piece is a rare carpet measuring 1m square, with a circular medallion pattern "window" in which cherry blossom and plum blossom-like trees and birds are placed.
This piece was produced by the Mirmehidi atelier, and it is worth noting that the pattern was originally designed for the Japanese market. Currently, Mirmehidi atelier's main clients are Arab countries, but there was a time when Japan accounted for 70% of their suppliers. At that time, square carpets were quite popular, and it seems that designs that Japanese people liked were also incorporated into the patterns on the carpets. This piece uses a design created during that period. If you look closely, you will be able to see many designs that are familiar to Japanese people of the time and today in this carpet.
As you can see from their other carpets, Mirmehidi Atelier is good at designing carpets with colorful floral motifs scattered all over the carpet. This piece can be evaluated as a masterpiece that skillfully incorporates traditional oriental designs and beautifully combines them with their own specialty designs.
As we have seen in this work, Persian carpets do not only combine traditional Iranian patterns, but it is not uncommon for them to incorporate foreign designs from the East and West. Therefore, when appreciating a carpet, if you look at it while thinking of the paintings and crafts you have seen so far, you may be able to enjoy discovering unexpected commonalities and even feeling historical connections.

Detailed description of the colours depicted:
The design of this piece is mainly a combination of Mehrab and Drakhti patterns. Mehrab is a Persian word that means a niche in a mosque, and a niche is a recessed facility in the front wall of the interior of the mosque's prayer hall. Meanwhile, Drakhti means "tree pattern" and is a pattern featuring the "tree of life," which is a symbol of life. For people living in the dry areas of the Middle East, where much of the land is desert and there is little greenery, the "tree of life" evokes the image of a place with water, an oasis, and at the same time, there are flowers and a garden. A paradise where birds and animals gather, trees and flowers in full bloom, and small birds flying around, this is a mysterious place where animal life is born from nature, a paradise. A green environment and paradise are dreams that everyone has. Therefore, it is thought that the Mirmehidi workshop, which created this piece, was trying to express on the carpet a "mysterious space filled with dreams and hope" by combining the two patterns. Carpet lovers know that the color of a high-quality silk carpet changes dramatically depending on the sunlight conditions and the angle of the light that hits it. Persian carpets often feature designs that make use of this characteristic of silk. Let's take this piece as an example. The photo below was taken with the carpet laid on the floor.
If you take a photo at night in a darkened room with a light on near the carpet, you can see that the canopy and columns of the mosque in the carpet stand out in a golden hue, and the flowers of the Tree of Life surrounded by the canopy and columns stand out vividly. It is believed that the Mirmehidi workshop took advantage of the characteristics of silk to weave the carpet in such a way that the mosque and the Tree of Life stand out. What is the meaning behind this design? From the composition of the carpet, where a medallion pattern with flowers is placed in the corner (this part is called the Haasiyeh Bozorg) and the mosque and the Tree of Life are placed inside the square guard (this part is called the Haasiyeh Kucek), the following interpretations can be made, for example.
"In a flower-filled garden, a square entrance to the Garden of Eden opens. Looking through the entrance, one can see a mosque, and beyond that, heaven itself with the Tree of Life (the Tree of Eden) growing there. When sunlight shines into the room, the entrance to the Garden of Eden and the mosque change color, shining with a golden hue."
Persian carpets can be enjoyed not only for their techniques and designs, but also by contemplating the meaning behind them, just like paintings. (I believe this is also the same way of enjoying Japanese tea utensils and lacquerware such as maki-e.)
According to the Mirmehidi workshop, this pattern is very popular among Arabian oil barons (people called sheikhs), and I think this is because this carpet is a work that combines technique and story. Also, as something auspicious, a large growing tree means "growth" and "longevity". It also has the meaning of wishing for great fortune.

Unit price perMirmehidi Atelier's masterpiece, "Tree of Life," breathes life into any space with its delicate colors and intricate weaving.
This silk Persian carpet beautifully depicts the "Tree of Life," a traditional Persian carpet motif. The Tree of Life, which appears in tribal rituals and myths around the world and symbolizes longevity and prosperity, is also called "Drakhti" in Persian and "Tree of Life" in English. For people living in arid regions, this motif symbolizes an oasis, the source of life, where flowers and animals gather, depicting a mystical place like paradise.
The field color is a mix of blue and sky blue, and this carpet is woven in vivid colors, using several times more colors than other Qom silk carpets. The result is a highly artistic and eye-catching beautiful color scheme. The realistically depicted "Tree of Life" features 10 types of flowers, including roses, dahlias, and jasmine, and a wide variety of birds flocking together. Taking advantage of the texture of the silk, the flowers and birds are expressed as if they stand out in three dimensions.
The sub-border features a repeated design of two birds facing each other with a flower in between, creating a balanced look. The main border also features a string of delicately designed roses, which harmonize with the overall field color of blue. This brings out the beauty of nature, overflowing with vitality.
This carpet is not just a decorative piece, but a piece that evokes the power of life and nature. The beautiful colors and intricate design give the space a mysterious energy, giving it a special presence in any place. This masterpiece, which took 22 months to weave, is a wonderful workmanship that can only be achieved by the latest work from a famous workshop.
