The Mirmehdi Workshop is a famous carpet workshop that represents Qom, one of the principal production regions of Persian carpets. Qom is the most well-known and popular production region in our country as the home of gorgeous, elegant all-silk carpets. Even within Qom, the Mirmehdi Workshop is a world-class workshop with a gift for refined, delicate, and graceful use of color—especially pale tones. The reign of Shah Abbas (r. 1588–1629), the fifth monarch of the Safavid dynasty (1501–1736), the most flourishing period in the history of Persian carpets and the restorer of Persia, was also the era in which the basic designs of the Persian carpet—handed down to this day as traditional or classical patterns—were perfected. Building on these traditional patterns, the Mirmehdi Workshop is in a league of its own when it comes to wielding compositions that are highly complex yet stable—especially multidimensional compositions that unfold in layer upon intricate layer—and rendering the splendor of the main and sub colors in an intelligent, chic, and sweetly tempered palette. It is also said that carpets in which the workshop name can be seen, woven subtly into each part of the carpet (the field, medallion, pendant, corners, border, and so on), are proof of confident works that the Mirmehdi Workshop produced in their entirety.
