Description
Placed by the entrance or next to a sofa, an elongated medallion floats within a deep green field. Upon closer inspection, you'll notice small figures on horseback and processions woven into the border. It's a piece that seems to translate ancient Persian palace reliefs onto a rug.
Zabihi Workshop's Persepolis Story Carpet
This piece is from the Zabihi workshop, known for its historical narrative motifs, even within Qom production. An elongated "Lachak-o-Toranj" (corner & medallion) design is centered, with cypress trees (sarv) flanking the medallion. The outer border features small depictions of ancient Persian processions, people on horseback, and dancing figures, turning the entire rug into a stage for a story. The composition evokes the palace reliefs of ancient Persepolis.
The Precision and Luster Unique to Silk
Because it's made of 100% fine silk threads, every individual figure and horse in the border, the branching of the cypress trees, and even the scattered flowers in the field are discernible. The deep green subtly changes its expression with the angle of light, a characteristic unique to silk.
How to Incorporate it into Your Life
At 59x99cm, it's the perfect size for an entryway, as a center rug next to a sofa, or framed as a wall hanging. Its narrative composition makes it enjoyable to place somewhere you can admire it closely, discovering its intricate details.
This unique piece was hand-picked by the owner during a visit to the workshop in Qom. You can see the actual luster and detailed story in a video. Golestan Persian Carpet Specialty Store.
