A closer look reveals winged mythical beasts (resembling Simurghs or dragons) facing each other on all four sides of the medallion, with small palace designs in the corners. It's a composition that seems to encapsulate ancient Persian legends within a single rug.

Mythical Beast Medallion from the Nikukar Workshop

Among Qom silk rugs, this workshop is known for its unique designs that intricately weave Persian mythical motifs. On a deep royal blue ground, a golden rosette-shaped medallion is set, with lamp-shaped pendants hanging above and below it. On all four sides of the medallion, winged beasts reminiscent of the Persian legendary sacred bird Simurgh and dragons are arranged, while small palace designs adorn the four corners (lachak), and a continuous pattern of animals like deer, horses, and eagles forms the border. It is a dignified composition that reflects ancient Persian court culture on a rug.

The Intricacy and Luster Unique to Silk

Because it is made of 100% fine silk threads, you can discern the overlapping petals of the rosette, each individual wing of the mythical beasts, and even the outlines of the palaces in the corners. Depending on the angle of the light, the royal blue becomes more intense, and the gold quietly emerges.
