Description
The entire rug is covered with a finely detailed komon (small repeating pattern) of diamond shapes and a fishbone-like design (mahi = fish pattern), over which oval medallions appear to float. This design represents the pinnacle of intricate detail that Tabriz has refined over many centuries.
Tabriz – The Tradition of Intricate Detail Honed in an Ancient City
The ancient city of Tabriz, located in the traditional northwestern region, is a production center whose name is among the oldest in the history of Persian carpets. Centered around its grand bazaar and workshops, the tradition of intricate weaving, which carries on the legacy of courtly decorations, is still preserved today. This piece is a classic design woven by the Tabriz workshop lineage.
Finely Handwoven, Sturdy Construction
With a density of approximately 320,000 knots per square meter, the outlines of the patterns are sharply defined. The natural variations in the hand-tied knots create subtle textures in how the surface reflects light. Tabriz is renowned for its robust construction, with densely tied knots from its intricate weaving, ensuring it becomes more comfortable with long-term use.
