This rug features a multitude of motifs in red, blue, beige, and navy meticulously scattered across its entire surface. An arch-shaped design, reminiscent of a prayer niche, emerges in the center, surrounded by intricate decorations.

Intricate Geometric Patterns of Eastern Khorasan

The authentic Eastern Khorasan region boasts a tradition of geometric carpets influenced by Caucasian designs. The central arch shape evokes a prayer niche (mihrab), indicating the direction of prayer, and a characteristic of the eastern style is to finely fill the surrounding area with small patterns. Despite the large number of colors, the arrangement of the color scheme prevents it from becoming too busy.

The pile is made of wool. With approximately 320,000 knots per square meter, each motif is clearly defined. The inherent variations in handwoven knots create subtle undulations in the pattern, adding a warmth not found in machine-woven rugs.
