Tabriz — The Intricate Tradition Forged in an Ancient City

The ancient city of Tabriz in northwestern Iran is a production center that has been mentioned for the longest time in the history of Persian rugs. With the central bazaar and numerous workshops as its core, the intricate weaving tradition inherited from court ornamentation is still alive today. This rug, woven in a Tabriz workshop, showcases a classic design.

Intricate Hand-Weaving, Solid Construction

With a density of approximately 510,000 knots per square meter, the pattern outlines are very distinct. The natural variations in knotting inherent in hand-weaving create subtle variations in how light reflects off the surface. Tabriz rugs are known for their robust construction, with tightly woven, intricate knots, and they become more comfortable with prolonged use.
