Placed in an entryway or on a wall, a circular medallion in gold and orange floats in the center of a deep burgundy (wine red) ground. Delicate ornamentation radiates from the central sunburst motif, and the outer perimeter features a double border of Greek-style meanders (thunder patterns) and a continuous vase pattern.

Circular Medallion by Abasi Workshop (Golden Sunburst and Meander Frame)

This piece is by the Abasi Workshop (Mohsen Abasi), known for its Qum silk carpets. This rare square (100x100cm) features a bold composition with a circular medallion placed centrally. A petal-shaped medallion, with golden, orange, and green sunburst motifs layered radially, floats on the deep burgundy ground. Fine ornamentation extends from the top and bottom sar-lachak, and the double border consists of a Greek-style meander (thunder pattern) on the inside and a continuous vase (gholdani) pattern on the outside. A weaver's signature cartouche is present at the top edge. This piece adds geometric tension with its meander frame to the classic lachak-toranj design.

Luster and Intricacy of 100% Silk

Because it is 100% silk, the details become more apparent the closer you look, from the sunburst motif in the center of the medallion to the double-bordered meanders, continuous vase pattern, and signature cartouche. The luster of the silk changes with the angle of the light, and gold emerges from the depth of the burgundy, which is the true essence of Qum silk.
