Placed in a living room or on a wall, a large, spiraling paisley (boteh) motif fills the entire frame on a deep maroon background. Within and around it, countless smaller paisleys, flowers, phoenixes, and small birds are intricately depicted, revealing more detailed creatures the closer you look.

Large Spiral Paisley (Boteh / Phoenix and Small Birds) by Mirmehdi Workshop

This piece is from the renowned Mirmehdi workshop, famous for its Qum silk. While typical boteh patterns feature a continuous series of small paisleys, this work employs a unique composition: a large, spiraling boteh in the center, surrounded by intricate small botehs, flowers, phoenixes, and small birds. On a deep maroon ground, gold, pink, blue, turquoise, and green hues are layered in a rich color palette. The border features a detailed continuous vine and flower pattern, with signature cartouches at the top and bottom. It's a striking piece that condenses classic boteh patterns and a paradise garden into a single composition.

The Luster and Detail of 100% Silk

Because it's 100% silk, the details become clearer the closer you look: the outline of the spiral boteh, the small botehs and flowers within, the feathers of the hidden phoenixes and small birds, and the intricate vines of the border. The luster of the silk changes with the angle of the light, causing the various colors to emerge from the deep maroon background—a true hallmark of Qum silk.

How to Integrate it into Your Home

At 107x155cm, it's the perfect size for a room corner, a long hallway, as an accent rug in the living room, or as a wall hanging or framed art. The deep maroon background pairs well with both white walls and wood floors, adding a touch of elegant splendor to the space. This piece is ideal for those who prefer to enjoy the spiraling narrative that extends across the entire frame, rather than the opulence of a central medallion.

This is a one-of-a-kind item personally sourced by the shop owner directly from the Mirmehdi workshop in Qum. You can view a video to see the actual luster of the silk, the intricate details of the spiral paisley, and the hidden phoenixes and small birds. Golestan, a specialist Persian rug store.
