Description
When hung in an entryway or on a wall, an eight-color mixed ground, predominantly orange, displays a continuous pattern of star-shaped diamonds. In the center is a turquoise and multi-colored elongated medallion, above and below are chandeliers within a pair of mihrab-like arches, and in the four corners are small mosque gates. The closer you get, the more detailed the architectural story of the scene reveals itself.
Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop Botanical Dye Eight-Color Medallion (Orange Ground)
Among Qom silk carpets, this is a silk piece made with "botanical dyes (plant dyes)," a technique continued only by the main line of the Jamshidi family, the Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop. In this piece, eight colors achievable with plant dyes are combined into one, with an orange-dominant, star-shaped diamond ground as the background. A turquoise elongated medallion in the center, intricate chandeliers suspended within mihrab-like arches above and below, and small mosque gates lining the four corners. The deep, clear orange, gentle golden brown, earthy red, and deep indigo cannot be achieved with chemical dyes. While using multiple colors, the overall piece remains quietly unified, characteristic of Jamshidi's botanical dyes.
The Luster and Intricacy of 100% Silk
Precisely because it is 100% silk, from the sun emblem in the center of the medallion to the star-shaped diamonds in the ground, the chandeliers above and below, and the mosque gates in the four corners, the closer you get, the more details emerge. With changes in the angle of light, the luster of the silk changes across the surface, and the orange ground flickers warmly like a lamp, truly expressing the essence of Qom silk through botanical dyeing.
How to Incorporate into Your Life
Measuring 59x91cm, this piece is suitable as an entrance mat, framed as a wall hanging, in front of a desk in a study, or by a bedside. The eight-color orange mix blends well with both white walls and wood-grained floors, adding a lamp-like warmth to the space. This piece is recommended for those who appreciate the depth and architectural narrative of plant dyes over the vibrancy of chemical dyes.
