About Jamshidi Workshop
History of the Workshop
The Jamshidi Workshop was founded in 1962 in Qom, by Mohammad Jamshidi Pour. He was involved in carpet making from a young age, and after honing traditional techniques, he established the workshop with the ambition of "making the highest quality silk carpets." While valuing dyeing techniques using natural dyes, he improved the quality of silk threads and the fineness of weaving, establishing intricate and delicate designs that are globally recognized. Today, the founder's techniques and spirit are passed down to his sons, establishing the workshop's status as a prestigious name in Persian carpets.
Characteristics of the Workshop
At the Jamshidi Workshop, all processes are integrated within the workshop, ensuring thorough quality control. Skilled artisans hand-finish the twisting, dyeing, and weaving of threads. Using the highest quality silk threads and traditional natural dyes, they produce carpets that retain their beautiful luster without fading. Furthermore, their unique technique of twisting up to eight colors of thread creates nuanced color depths. With an ultra-high density weave of 12 to 14 knots per centimeter, architectural patterns and details of flora and fauna are vividly depicted. This commitment to detail achieves unparalleled quality.
Characteristics of Patterns
Carpets from the Jamshidi Workshop are characterized by designs that blend traditional beauty with modern sensibilities. The medallion pattern, in particular, features large circles or floral patterns in the center, expressing formality and splendor. Hunting designs vividly depict hunters, horses, and forest animals, possessing a profound beauty akin to paintings. The lion and sun motif is traditionally used as a symbol of royal power and wisdom. Arabesque patterns, geometric patterns, and garden landscapes are also incorporated, creating original beauty.
Workshop Popularity and International Recognition
Jamshidi Workshop carpets are praised as "the pinnacle of traditional Qom carpets" and receive high acclaim from enthusiasts worldwide. They have won numerous awards at international exhibitions, earning recognition as "the king of silk carpets." Due to their quality and rarity, they are cherished by collectors, the wealthy, and even royalty. Middle Eastern royalty, European aristocrats, and wealthy Americans choose them to adorn their residences and palaces, holding value as family heirlooms passed down through generations. Jamshidi Workshop creations are not only beautiful but also masterpieces that convey the splendor of artisanal craftsmanship.
Independent Workshops
Mohammad Jamshidi's nephews, Abbas and Masoud, deeply learned the know-how of carpet making under their great uncle and later established their own independent workshops. While preserving the main family's traditions, they create works with their own unique sensibilities.
Today, the founder's techniques and spirit are passed down to his sons, establishing the workshop's status as a prestigious name in Persian carpets.
Currently, the Jamshidi family's legacy is carried on and expanded by talented relatives who were trained by him. While all works by this family boast top-class quality, each workshop operates independently.
The most significant feature is that anyone can easily identify which workshop produced a piece by simply checking the "signature" woven into the top or bottom (pile part) of the work.
This also serves as proof that each workshop takes pride in its name and produces its works responsibly.
Abbas Jamshidi Workshop
Born in Qom in 1958, Abbas is the nephew of Mohammad Jamshidi.
After graduating from junior high school at the age of 15, he began training at Mohammad's workshop with his father, Hossein. In 1979, he became independent after his father's death. Since then, he has maintained a thorough commitment to quality, and today he is as highly regarded as his mentor, Mohammad. He specializes in the minute floral patterns called "Gol Riz" (small flower), but Abbas's works are characterized by their pursuit of orthodox and classical beauty. His style, which avoids ostentation and epitomizes the orthodox Persian carpet, has earned him profound trust from connoisseur enthusiasts.
Masud Jamshidi Workshop
Masud Jamshidi, related to Jafar, is also a skilled artisan who inherited Mohammad's techniques.
The workshop's main characteristic is its expertise in "small-sized carpets (such as doormats and square shapes)." It has a strong reputation for its ability to create astonishingly intricate and beautiful designs in small sizes, where balancing the composition is more challenging than in large pieces.
Jafar Jamshidi Workshop
Jafar is Mohammad's nephew and Abbas's cousin. He also works as a carpet maker, inheriting the Jamshidi family's DNA, and produces works with the family's characteristic intricate weaving and high artistic quality. By checking the signature, his works can be instantly identified.

Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop Signature
The signature is woven in elegant Persian calligraphy reading "Qom · Mohammad Jamshidi MJ", flanked by motifs of a lion holding a sword and the sun. In Persian carpets these symbols stand for royal authority, strength, justice, wisdom, and tradition.
The signature is not always in a single place.
Depending on the design and composition, it may appear in several locations — top and bottom, or left and right — and this too is one of the marks that distinguish the workshop's pieces.

Color and pattern characteristics
The appeal of Jamshidi Workshop pieces lies in the lustre of silk and the precision of the design. Vivid reds, gold, and turquoise stand out and shift in character with the angle of view. Traditional medallions, arabesques, florals, and the lion-and-sun motif are skilfully combined — symbols of royal authority, wisdom, and justice.

Miniature Medallion from the Masoud Jamshidi Workshop
This is a besteveri work from the Masoud Jamshidi workshop, known among the prestigious Jamshidi family of Qom silk for its compositional beauty and respect for history. The central medallion features a miniature painting of figures (seated royalty or lovers) woven in a circular cartouche in the tradition of Persian miniature painting, surrounded by red and gold wavy cartouches. Look closely at the top edge, and you'll see capital of the double-headed bull, a symbol of the ancient Persian Empire's capital Persepolis, and reliefs of kings and soldiers woven in a band pattern—a scene that condenses the splendor of pre-Christian eras into a small frame.
Abbas Jamshidi Workshop "Persepolis" (Double-Headed Bull and King's Relief)
This piece, "Takht Jamshidi" from the Abbas Jamshidi Workshop, a Qom silk carpet workshop, is named after the ancient Persian Empire's capital, which is now the Persepolis ruins. In the center is a circular sun medallion, surrounded by a light blue oval. The terracotta (reddish-brown/brick color) ground is adorned with intricate arabesque patterns and flowers, and the border has a double composition of terracotta on the inside and dark blue on the outside. The most prominent feature is the band pattern at the top edge—the double-headed bull capitals and reliefs of kings and soldiers from the Persepolis ruins are woven in a pictorial scroll-like fashion, thread by thread. This is a masterpiece of architectural motifs, a specialty of Mr. Abbas.
The Luster and Detail of 100% Silk
Because it is 100% silk, the closer you get, the more details you can see, from the sun medallion in the center, to the intricate arabesques on the ground, the continuous flowers of the double border, the double-headed bull and king's relief at the top edge, and the color changes in each thread of the border. Mohammad Jamshidi Studio Botanical Dye "Night Garden" Rare Large Size 195x317cm (ID2300)
¥18,000,000
Unit price perWhen laid across a living room, countless golden, pink, and green flowers appear to float on a jet-black ground. In the center are a brown oval medallion and a rosette, and in the four corners are spandrels from a mosque gate—a scene like peering into a garden at midnight, spread across 195×317cm.
"Night Garden" Botanical Dye by Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop
This is a silk piece dyed with botanical dyes, a practice continued only by the main lineage of the Jamshidi family, the Mohammad Jamshidi workshop, among all Qom silk carpets. The theme of this work is "Night Garden"—on a deep, almost jet-black ground, calm golden, pink, green, and purple flowers unique to botanical dyes are scattered, with a brown oval medallion and sarlachak in the center. The deep, non-turbid black, gentle golden brown, earthy red, and deep indigo cannot be achieved with chemical dyes. The overall quiet harmony, despite the use of many colors, is due to the natural resonance between botanical dyes.
Luster and Detail of 100% Silk, Colors Unique to Botanical Dyes
Because it is 100% silk, the closer you get, the more details become visible: the rosette in the center of the medallion, each small flower scattered on the ground, the details of the mosque gates in the four corners, and the intricate continuous floral pattern of the border. With every change in the angle of light, the luster of the silk changes, and gold and pink emerge on the jet-black ground—this piece expresses the true essence of Qom silk through botanical dyeing.
Only Two Ever Woven, From the Workshop's Peak Years
This colour and pattern has been woven only twice in the history of the Mohammad Jamshidi workshop. This piece is one of those two, and was made during the years the workshop was at the height of its powers. The depth of the unmuddied black ground, the calm tones of the botanical dyes, and the lustre of the silk all carry the mark of that period. Even the dimensions — 195×317cm, a touch larger than the standard 200×300 — are an order rarely attempted in silk. From the owner's experience, a piece matching all of these conditions is unlikely to come up again.
How to Incorporate into Your Life
At 195×317cm, this rare large size is perfect as the centerpiece of a living room, under a dining table, or in a reception room. This size is rarely seen in silk carpets, and the jet-black ground complements both white walls and wooden floors, giving the space the quiet elegance of a night garden. This piece is suited for those who desire a quiet story of a garden floating in the jet-black darkness, rather than the overt splendor of a central medallion.
This piece has been selected for our collection of exceptional pieces that are difficult to reacquire. You can view the actual luster, the botanical dye colors, and the details of the flowers floating on the jet black in the video. Golestan Persian Carpet Specialty Store.

Botanically Dyed Dome Pattern by Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop (Architecture of the Heavens)
Among Qom silk carpets, this is a silk piece dyed with botanical dyes, a technique continued only by the Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop, the main lineage of the Jamshidi family. The theme of this work is "Gombadi" (dome pattern) – a symbolic Persian architectural composition that flattens the decoration seen when looking up directly from below at the ceiling of a mosque. A small sun medallion is placed at the center, from which triangular spokes radiate, filling the interior of each spoke with intricate geometric and floral patterns. Mineral-like cartouches adorn the four corners, and intricate medallion frames line the top and bottom, all enclosed by a deep indigo border.
The Luster and Intricacy of 100% Silk, and Colors Unique to Botanical Dyes
Because it is 100% silk, details become visible as you approach, from the central sun medallion to each individual radiating triangle, the cartouches in the four corners, and the intricate vine patterns of the border. Unlike chemical dyes, the antique gold is deep and clear, the bronze is subdued, the salmon is pale, and the indigo is deep – because botanical dyes naturally harmonize with each other, the colors quietly settle within the radiating movement. The luster of the silk changes with the angle of the light on each surface, revealing the depth of the dome. This piece expresses the true essence of Qom silk through botanical dyeing.

In the center is a small rosette medallion, with prayer arches (mihrabs) in the four corners, and miniatures of small palaces lining the top border. It is a serene and intellectual piece, like a painting laid on the floor.
Palace Medallion from the Abbas Jamshidi Workshop
This piece is from the Abbas Jamshidi workshop, known for its beautiful composition and intellectual design, even among the prestigious Jamshidi family of Qom silk producers. The rhythm of the colonnade is woven by alternately layering "purple vertical bands" and "intricate floral vertical bands" above and below the central medallion. In the four corners are small mihrab-shaped arches, with small lamps and tulips inside. Along the top border are miniature decorations of small, castle-like buildings. This piece brings the intricate painting style of Persian palaces into a classical medallion composition.
The Intricacy and Luster Unique to Silk
Because of the fine 100% silk threads, the outlines of the columns in the colonnade, the tulips and lamps within the mihrabs, the windows and arches of the small palaces along the top, and even the star-shaped border of the central medallion are discernible. Depending on the angle of the light, the purple deepens, and the cream and multi-colored floral vertical bands stand out, an expression unique to silk. A closer look reveals small palaces lined up along the top, with more discoveries to be made the closer you get.

When hung on a wall, magenta pink, turquoise, and gold colors overlap like contour lines, bringing forth landscapes of unknown lands and paradise. The transparency and depth, unattainable with chemical dyes, change their expression depending on the quality of light—truly a geographical landscape painted with colors.
The Miraculous Colors of Mohammad Jamshidi's Main Line (Botanical Dye Geography)
This special piece, made of 100% Qum silk, was dyed using botanical dyes, a technique maintained exclusively by the main line of Mohammad Jamshidi. Our representative was captivated by it and selected it for our "Hard-to-Reacquire Masterpieces Collection" because it is extremely difficult to find another of the same quality. Colors extracted from natural materials such as pomegranate peel, walnut shells, madder root, and indigo gently permeate deep into each fiber of the silk, creating a transparency and depth that seem to glow from within. As the title "Geography" suggests, waves of color overlapping like contour lines across the carpet depict unknown lands and paradise.
The Intricacy and Sheen of Silk and Botanical Dyes
Because it is woven tightly with 100% silk and botanical dyes, each color gradation appears without any muddiness. The colors seem to breathe and change with the angle of light, and one's eyes don't tire even after long contemplation—a unique characteristic of botanical dyes not found in chemical dyes. The aging process is also beautiful; over time, the colors settle in, developing a profound sheen.
How to Incorporate into Your Home
The 60x105cm size is perfect for a wall hanging in a bedroom, study, or meditation space. When displayed on a wall away from direct sunlight, you can enjoy the "living colors" that change their expression in the soft morning light and under evening illumination, as an art piece beyond a painting.

This piece combines the classical Lachak o Toranj (corner & medallion) composition with the tranquil colors unique to vegetable dyes.

Depending on the angle of the light, the lilac透けます, the indigo deepens, and expressions like blooming wisteria flowers appear. The colors of vegetable dyes, woven over long months, become even more subdued with the passage of time.

Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop: Vegetable-Dyed Eight-Color Medallion (Blue Cloud Medallion and Green Field)

This particular piece incorporates eight colors achievable with plant dyes, featuring a vibrant blue cloud-shaped (ogival) medallion in the center, with a multicolored sunburst and intricate vase within. If you look closely at the thin bands on both ends, you'll see small figures on horseback and animal drawings woven in, giving the entire rug a subtle narrative.
Mohammad Jamshidi's Original Botanical Dyeing
Among Qum silk rugs, it is said that only Mohammad Jamshidi's original house uses botanical dyes instead of chemical dyes to achieve their colors. Dyes extracted from natural materials such as indigo, madder, and pomegranate peel deepen in richness over time and possess a soft hue that chemical dyes lack. In the center, a golden octagram (a symbol of the sun in ancient Persia) is set against a blue background, surrounded by a lachak-o-tranj (corner and medallion) design, with a pair of boteh (paisleys) placed in the corners.
The Luster of Silk and Botanical Dyes
Because fine 100% silk threads are colored with botanical dyes, every leaf of the vine grass in the field, the outline of the octagram, and each flower in the border can be distinguished. Unlike the flashy luster of chemical dyes, the deep, subdued blue and the moist sheen are expressions unique to botanical dyes.
