About Arbalu Workshop
Workshop History
Arbalu Workshop is a silk Persian carpet atelier based in Qom. It rose to prominence within the Qom silk tradition and is today known as one of the leading workshops producing carpets of exceptional quality. Pieces typically come with a certificate of authenticity, and brand management is carefully maintained.
Craft
Arbalu pieces are made from the finest silk, with rich colour drawn out through dyeing techniques that draw on natural pigments. The weave density runs from 1.0 to 1.2 million knots per square metre — extraordinarily fine work carried out by veteran weavers with years of training. Smooth and supple to the touch, and precise down to the smallest detail, the finished work has the polish of fine art.
Signature Designs
The workshop's designs are built on the traditional medallion-and-corner composition, with its own takes on vase, paisley, and dome motifs. Colour above all is where Arbalu shines — from traditional deep blues and emerald greens to soft pastels, its distinctive colour sense brings together brilliance and refinement.
The Place
The workshop is based in Qom. Qom is renowned as one of the great centres of Persian carpet weaving — especially for silk — where master craftsmanship has been handed down through generations in a dry climate steeped in cultural depth. Arbalu Workshop carries on this tradition, continuing to produce silk carpets of the very highest quality.
Check the workshop signature before purchase.
The Workshop's Signature
On the larger pieces, "Qom Arbalu" is woven into the intricate pattern itself in elegant Persian calligraphy. This is not mere decoration — it is an important mark of the carpet's authenticity and provenance. Notably, a national flag is woven into the background of the signature, underlining that the carpet is part of the region's living craft tradition and signalling the cultural weight a Persian carpet carries. On smaller pieces, only the workshop name "Qom Arbalu" appears, woven in the same elegant Persian script.
Each workshop has its own distinctive colour palette and pattern style.
Colour & Pattern Profile
Arbalu Workshop pieces are built around the classical medallion-and-corner composition, embellished with delicate floral and arabesque motifs. Alongside traditional deep blues, emerald greens, and wine reds, the workshop also works in soft pastel tones — all set off by the lustre of silk. With original vase patterns and paisleys of its own, each piece is a quiet meeting of traditional beauty and contemporary sensibility.

Hung in an entryway or on a wall, a bouquet of lilies (Zambag) rises from a vase in the center of a deep royal blue field, surrounded by a dense profusion of multicolored small flowers. It is a single rug that depicts a Persian paradise garden like a painting.
Vase Design by Albal Workshop (Lily Bouquet / Zambag Goldani)
This work is by the Albal workshop, known for Qom silk rugs. Among the classical Persian rug "Goldani (vase) designs," this piece features a large vase at the bottom center, from which a bouquet of lilies (Zambag) rises towards the heavens. Countless small flowers are densely clustered around the bouquet, creating a world reminiscent of the Tree of Life (Paradise under the Tree). The border features delicate continuous floral patterns, and the deep royal blue tightens the composition.
The Luster and Detail of 100% Silk
Because it is 100% silk, the details become apparent the closer you look: the ornamentation of the vase, the overlapping petals of the lilies, each tiny flower densely clustered in the field, and the intricate vines of the border. The luster of the silk changes with the angle of the light, revealing the depth of the royal blue and the multicolored small flowers, truly showcasing the essence of Qom silk.
How to Incorporate it into Your Home
At 60x91cm, this size is suitable for an entryway mat, a framed wall hanging, in front of a desk in a study, or beside a bed. The deep royal blue field complements both white walls and wooden floors, adding a floral story to the space. It is a piece for those who appreciate the composition of a vase and a paradise under the tree, which is different from the flamboyance of a central medallion.

Each rib catches the light with the sheen of silk, revealing more intricate details the closer you get.
Dome Pattern (Gombadi) from Albal Workshop
This piece is from the Albal workshop, highly regarded among Qum silk producers for its geometric composition and color sense. The owner himself was captivated by it, selecting it for the "Rare and Hard-to-Find Collection" due to the extreme difficulty of acquiring another piece of the same quality. The scene of looking up from directly below at the ceiling (Gombad) of a mosque in Persian architecture is depicted on the rug, with intricate floral and geometric patterns woven into each radiating rib from the central rosette. To make the turquoise background stand out, the outer edge is accented with a deep blue border.
The Intricacy and Sheen Unique to Silk
Because it is woven tightly with fine 100% silk threads, every single radiating rib, the geometric patterns of the central rosette, the small continuous domes in the four corners, and even the border's floral patterns are discernible. The turquoise deepens and the gold and orange emerge depending on the angle of the light—a characteristic expression unique to silk.
How to Incorporate into Your Home
At 135x209cm, it is the perfect size for a center rug in front of a 2-3 seater sofa, as the main feature of a reception room, or under a dining table. The combination of turquoise and gold goes well with both white walls and wood-grained floors, adding geometric beauty and elegance to the space.
This is a rare and difficult-to-reacquire piece that the store owner specially selected and fell in love with at a workshop in Qum. You can see the actual sheen, geometric intricacy, and the flow of the radiating ribs in the video. Golestan Persian Carpet Specialty Store.
