Spread out in a reception room, peacocks and colorful birds emerge from a field of flowers blooming on a cream ground. This piece, woven with the theme of world peace, has a documented history of being exhibited at the United Nations Office in Geneva.
Tree of Life and Peacock by Milmehdi Workshop
This is a work by the Milmehdi workshop, known for its delicate weaving among Qum carpets. A central medallion is placed on a cream field, and within it and around it are woven the Tree of Life, multicolored flowers such as roses and orchids, and large peacocks and colorful birds. Motifs symbolizing "prosperity and peace" are woven as a message for world peace. The material is a blend of cork wool (the first fleece of a lamb) and silk, resulting in a finish with both luster and softness.
Intricacy and Luster Unique to Cork Wool & Silk
Because of the fine threads, each feather of the peacock, the leaves of the Tree of Life, and even the stamens of the flowers are discernible. The way the cream color subtly changes depending on the angle of the light is also a characteristic expression unique to threads containing silk.
Placement in Your Home
Measuring 100 x 150 cm, this rug is the perfect size for a reception room or at the foot of a bed in a bedroom, as a center runner in a hallway, or framed as a wall hanging. The bright cream ground makes the room feel more spacious, and this piece easily complements both Japanese and Western-style rooms.
