Description
When hung in an entryway or on a wall, a medallion with navy arches layered over a bright gold ground seems to float. In the center is a colorful sun motif, above and below the medallion are saru rachak and small vases, and in the four corners are navy spandrels. It is like a Persian palace decoration reflected on a single carpet.
Abbas Jamshidi Workshop "Persepolis" Arch Medallion
This is "Persepolis," a work by the Abbas Jamshidi workshop in Qom, made of silk. The composition incorporates the architectural outlines of ancient Persian Empire palaces in Persepolis—pillar capitals and layered arches—into the carpet's medallion shape. The central ogival medallion has a colorful sun motif on a deep navy ground, and the saru rachak above and below feature small vases (gholdani). The entire bright gold ground is filled with intricate vines and countless small flowers, with a narrow band depicting a village scene at the top edge, and a continuous intricate floral pattern in the border.
The Luster and Intricacy of 100% Silk
Because it is 100% silk, the closer you get, the more details become visible, from the sun motif in the center of the medallion to the dense single small flowers on the gold ground, the vases in the saru rachak, and the intricate vines in the border. The luster of the silk changes with the angle of the light, and the strong contrast between navy and gold emerges—the true essence of Qom silk.
How to Incorporate into Your Life
Measuring 74 x 120 cm, it is a suitable size for a wide doormat, framed wall hanging, in front of a desk in a study, or by a bedside. The bright gold ground and deep navy harmonize well with white walls and wood floors, adding an intellectual elegance like ancient Persian decoration to the space. This piece is suitable for those who want to enjoy a strong color contrast and architectural decorative composition, unlike medallions with more subdued color schemes.
This is a unique item that the shop owner personally acquired directly from the Abbas Jamshidi workshop in Qom. You can see the actual luster, the details of the arch medallion, and the contrast between gold and navy in the video. Golestan Persian Carpet Specialty Store.
