Description
When laid at the entrance, a blue background and a golden octagram gently float in the center of the intricate silver-gray vine-and-grass field. If you look closely at the thin bands on both ends, you'll see small figures on horseback and animal drawings woven in, giving the entire rug a subtle narrative.
Mohammad Jamshidi's Original Botanical Dyeing
Among Qum silk rugs, it is said that only Mohammad Jamshidi's original house uses botanical dyes instead of chemical dyes to achieve their colors. Dyes extracted from natural materials such as indigo, madder, and pomegranate peel deepen in richness over time and possess a soft hue that chemical dyes lack. In the center, a golden octagram (a symbol of the sun in ancient Persia) is set against a blue background, surrounded by a lachak-o-tranj (corner and medallion) design, with a pair of boteh (paisleys) placed in the corners.
The Luster of Silk and Botanical Dyes
Because fine 100% silk threads are colored with botanical dyes, every leaf of the vine grass in the field, the outline of the octagram, and each flower in the border can be distinguished. Unlike the flashy luster of chemical dyes, the deep, subdued blue and the moist sheen are expressions unique to botanical dyes.
How to Place it in Your Home
59 x 91 cm is the perfect size for an entrance mat, a center rug beside a sofa, the focal point of a study, or framed as a wall hanging. With its silver-gray base, it's easy to match with white walls or wooden floors, making it a piece you can enjoy for a long time.
This is a one-of-a-kind item selected by the owner at a workshop in Qum. You can view the actual luster, the colors of the botanical dyes, and even the small drawings on both ends in the video. Golestan, a specialty store for Persian rugs.
