This piece reproduces "Shekargah," a hunting scene favored by ancient Persian royalty and nobility, in Qom silk. Mounted hunters are scattered across an ivory ground, with deer, gazelles, dogs, clouds, rocks, and flowers intricately woven. The patterns on each hunter's costume, the horse's saddle, and even the fur of the animals are distinctly rendered, making the entire rug a stage for a story. A deep red border frames the rug like a picture.
