Lay it at your entrance or hang it on your wall, and a deep navy background will reveal a golden vase (ghaldaan) from which red, pink, yellow, and blue flowers profusely bloom. At the top edge is a poem by the Persian poet Khayyam, woven in gold thread. As you admire the flowers and trace the meaning of the poem, you'll find yourself feeling refreshed and invigorated by this piece.
Vase Design with Khayyam's Poem by Mir Mehdi Workshop
This is a work from the Mir Mehdi workshop, known for its delicate weaving among Qum silks. The classical vase design (ghaldaani) is complemented by a quatrain (rubaiyat) by the great Persian poet Khayyam, woven in gold thread at the top edge. The poem reads: "The clouds cover the sky and weep over the vast green grasses and flowers. These blooming flowers are our view today; when we someday turn to dust, who will gaze upon that green?" This piece conveys a message of cherishing the present moment without worrying about worldly affairs, woven together with the flowers rising from the vase.
The Intricacy and Luster Unique to Silk
Because it is made of 100% fine silk threads, you can discern every detail of the golden vase, the shades of the petals, the overlapping leaves, and each character of the Persian poem at the top. The deep navy darkens with the angle of the light, and the golden poem and multicolored flowers emerge, a unique expression of silk.
How to Incorporate It into Your Life
At 48 x 84 cm, it is the perfect size for an entrance mat, a wall decoration, or framed as the centerpiece of a living room or study, or placed on a console table. The combination of deep navy and multicolored flowers complements both white walls and wooden furniture, adding a touch of poetic charm and elegance to any space. It also makes a delightful gift for those who love literature and poetry.
This is a unique piece personally selected by the owner at a workshop in Qum. You can see the actual luster, the intricate details of the vase, and the characters of Khayyam's poem in the video. Golestan Persian Carpet Specialty Store.
