When laid in the living room, a sky-blue Ogival (cloud-shaped) medallion floats in the center of a deep navy background. From the radial rosette at the center of the medallion, delicate vines and flowers spread out, creating a scene where the story continues down to the small vase (guldani) at the bottom.

Ogival Medallion from the Albal Workshop (Vines and Vase / Lachak Toranj)

This is a work from the Albal workshop, made of Qum silk. The central medallion is an Ogival (cloud-shaped) oval, with gold, green, and red sun motifs inside, and delicate vines and countless flowers scattered across the entire field. The spandrels on the outer periphery are deep navy, with a vase (guldani) motif below the sar-lachak at the top and bottom, and a continuous series of delicate flowers on the border. This is a luxurious piece that weaves elements of a paradise garden into the classic Lachak Toranj composition.

The Luster and Intricacy of 100% Silk

Because it is 100% silk, the details become more apparent as you get closer, from the sun motif in the center of the medallion to the vines and countless small flowers in the field, the vase at the bottom, and the continuous floral pattern on the border. The luster of the silk changes with the angle of the light, with the clarity of the sky blue and the depth of the navy alternately appearing—the true essence of Qum silk.
