When placed at the entrance, copper-colored and turquoise leaf patterns and small flowers are scattered like jewels on a jet-black ground, with a turquoise sun pattern shining in the central oval medallion. The top and bottom borders feature reliefs from an ancient Persian palace, and the four corners have miniatures of vases and flowers. It is a scene like a jewel box floating in the darkness.

Midnight Jewel from Abbas Jamshidi Workshop

This piece is from the Abbas Jamshidi workshop, known for its compositional beauty and intelligent designs, even within the prestigious Jamshidi family of Qum silk. The entire piece, from the field to the border, is unified in jet black, with copper, red, blue, turquoise, and pink flowers scattered throughout. In the center is a large oval medallion with a turquoise sun pattern inside. In the center of the top and bottom borders is a relief depicting a king and his attendants from an ancient Persian palace, a hallmark of the Jamshidi workshop. It is a small piece where jewels and Persian history coexist within the jet-black darkness.

The intricacy and luster unique to silk

Because it is finished with a dense weave of fine 100% silk threads, the outlines of the leaf patterns, the gradations of the flowers, the sun pattern of the medallion, the vases in the corners, and even the king and attendants in the reliefs of the top and bottom borders are all discernible. The jet black deepens with the angle of the light, and the copper and turquoise appear like jewels, a characteristic expression of silk.

How to incorporate it into your living space

At 59 x 89 cm, it is the perfect size for an entrance mat, a wall hanging, a tokonoma in a Japanese-style room, or framed as a centerpiece in a living room or study. The color scheme, with jet black as the main color, is easy to match with white walls, wood floors, and modern monotone interiors, adding a touch of serene dignity and splendor to the space.

This is a one-of-a-kind item selected by the owner at the workshop in Qum. You can see the actual luster of the piece, the jewel-like flowers scattered on the jet black, and the reliefs of the ancient Persian palace woven into the top and bottom borders in the video.
