When laid at the entrance, a small sun motif medallion is set on a golden cream ground, surrounded by a continuous spread of gold and pastel pink paisley patterns. Near the fringe, tiny lions and crowns, the hallmarks of the Ali Jeddi workshop, are arranged side-by-side, revealing more details the closer one looks.

This piece is from the Ali Jeddi workshop, a top brand for Qum silk. As the name "Sprawling" suggests, the composition has an expansive feel, with patterns seemingly extending infinitely outwards from the small sun medallion in the center. The ground is a bright canvas of golden cream, with gold and pastel pink paisley (boteh) patterns arranged radially on the inside, and a thin light green border on the outside. Along the fringes, rows of small lions and crowns serve as a testament to the Jeddi family's carpets, a classic hidden motif discovered upon closer inspection.

The Intricacy and Luster Unique to Silk

Because it is tightly woven with fine 100% silk threads, every detail is discernible, from the thin outline of the sun motif and the swirls of the paisley to the continuous floral border and the lions and crowns along the fringe. The golden cream changes its expression from a pearly silver to a champagne gold depending on the angle of the light, a lustrous quality unique to silk.
