Description
When laid at the entrance, a gentle beige ground reveals intricate patterns in pale blue and coral pink, with a round medallion set in the center like a jewel. The fringes feature hidden images of small lions and crowns, a subtle yet discerning tableau that reveals more details the closer you look.
Ali Jeddi Workshop's Sprawling Medallion
This piece is from the Ali Jeddi workshop, a prestigious family specializing in Qom silk. As the name "Sprawling" suggests, the design features a central medallion from which patterns extend infinitely outwards, all in a gentle, monochromatic palette of beige and cream. The central element is a round, coral pink sunburst medallion, while the ground is an azure beige with a fine diamond pattern. The border features a continuous floral motif on a cream background. Along the fringes are rows of small lions and crowns, a classic hidden motif that is a hallmark of Jeddi family rugs. The weaver's signature is also included at the bottom.
Intricacy and Luster Unique to Silk
Woven with fine, tightly packed 100% silk threads, every detail is distinguishable: the intricate diamond pattern of the ground, the sunburst medallion, the continuous floral border, and even the lions and crowns along the fringe. With a restrained color palette, the meticulous weaving and the luster of silk stand out, embodying an aesthetic of subtraction.
