A large, reddish-brown diamond medallion sits grandly on a cream field. Smaller ornaments extend above and below the medallion, and the entire field is sprinkled with small flower, leaf, and animal motifs.

Qashqai Central Medallion Composition

This is a rug from the Qashqai tribe, who lead a nomadic life around Shiraz in the southwest. The composition, with a large diamond medallion in the center and pendant-like ornaments extending above and below it, is their representative design. The cream background brightens the entire rug and contrasts with the multi-colored patterns.

100% Wool, from Their Own Sheep

The pile is wool. It's traditionally made with wool shorn from the Qashqai's own sheep. With approximately 320,000 knots per square meter, it's finely woven, and the outlines are clearly defined even within the medallion.
