Description
The design features four diamond-shaped medallions floating vertically on a deep navy background. This is a traditional nomadic rug woven by the Qashqai people around Shiraz.
Continuous Medallions of the Qashqai Tribe
This rug is from the Qashqai tribe, who live a nomadic life in southwestern Iran, around Shiraz. The design of vertically linked diamond-shaped medallions is a characteristic pattern of theirs, with small motifs of livestock and plants scattered throughout. The color scheme of navy blue with red and multicolored intricate decorations is a direct reflection of their nomadic lifestyle.
100% Wool, from Their Own Sheep
The pile is wool. It's traditionally made with wool shorn from the Qashqai's own sheep. The variations in knots and the subtle differences in dye shade, unique to hand-weaving, create a depth not found in machine-made rugs. Although there are many colors, the navy background ties everything together, resulting in a subdued impression.
Placement Guide
The size is 156 x 219 cm, making it a living room rug suitable for an area slightly larger than 2 tatami mats. It can be used as a center rug in front of a 3-seater sofa, under a dining table, or as a focal point in a study. Its deep navy color makes it stand out when paired with light-colored flooring or white walls.
