Description
Hang it in your entryway or on a wall, and a turquoise cloud-shaped medallion will emerge in the center of a deep red-purple frame. At its heart is a vibrant sunburst pattern, while the outer orange field is dotted with silhouettes of small deer and elephants, and scattered flowers, creating a scene where more details reveal themselves the closer you get.
Botanically Dyed Medallion by Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop (Cloud-shape with Field of Small Animals)
Amongst Qom silk carpets, this is a silk piece produced using "botanical dyes (plant dyes)," a technique maintained solely by the Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop, the main lineage of the Jamshidi family. It features a deep, non-muddy turquoise, an earthy red, and a gentle golden brown that cannot be achieved with chemical dyes. Despite the use of many colors, the overall composition remains harmoniously subdued, precisely because the plant dyes naturally resonate with each other. In the center is a cloud-shaped (ogival) medallion with a radial sunburst pattern inside, and small boteh motifs on the turquoise ground. The outer orange field depicts deer, elephants, and flowers, while a deep red-purple border tightens the composition.
100% Silk Luster and Intricacy
Because it is 100% silk, details from the sunburst pattern in the center of the medallion to the small boteh on the turquoise ground, the small animals on the outer field, and the intricate vines of the border, become visible the closer you get. The luster of the silk changes with the angle of the light, with turquoise, orange, and red-purple overlapping, making this a piece that expresses the true essence of Qom silk through botanical dyeing.
How to Incorporate into Your Life
Measuring 57x87cm, it is suitable as an entryway rug, framed as a wall decoration, in front of a desk in a study, or beside a bed. The deep red-purple frame complements both white walls and wood-grained floors, adding a narrative accent to the space. This piece is ideal for those who prefer the depth of plant dyes and the story of the field of small animals over the vividness of chemical dyes.
A unique item personally acquired by the owner directly from the Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop in Qom. You can see the actual luster, botanical dye colors, and details of the cloud-shaped medallion and small animals in the video. Golestan, Persian Carpet Specialty Store.
Colours That Shift With the Angle
Thanks to the silk's sheen, the rug's character shifts with the viewing angle and the light.
