Description
Hung in an entryway or on a wall, a vibrant orange field unfolds in the center of a deep black frame, with a diamond-shaped medallion floating above it. In the center of the medallion is a multicolored sunburst, and along the black spandrels are small animals and tiny mosque gates, creating a scene whose story emerges the closer you look.
Botanical-dyed Medallion (Small Animals and Mosque Gates) by Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop
This is a silk piece dyed with botanical dyes (plant-based dyes), a technique continued only by the main branch of the Jamshidi family, the Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop, even among Qom silk carpets. It features a deep, non-muddy black, an earthy red, and a lantern-like orange that cannot be achieved with chemical dyes. The simultaneous vibrancy and depth are a result of the natural harmony between the plant dyes. In the center is a diamond-shaped medallion with a radial sunburst pattern. On the outer black background, small animals like deer and horses are depicted, and in the four corners and top/bottom are arch gates (small mosques) and intertwining vines, creating a pictorial story.
Luster and Intricacy of 100% Silk
Because it is 100% silk, the details become visible the closer you look, from the sunburst in the center of the medallion to the small animals hidden in the black background, the domes of the mosque gates, and the intricate floral patterns of the border. The luster of the silk changes with the angle of the light on each surface, and the contrast between orange and black emerges, showcasing the true essence of Qom silk expressed through botanical dyeing.
How to Incorporate into Your Life
The 59x87cm size is suitable for an entryway mat, a framed wall decoration, in front of a desk in a study, or by a bedside. The vivid contrast between orange and deep black complements both white walls and wood-grain floors, adding a narrative accent to the space. This piece is ideal for those who appreciate a strong color contrast and intricate storytelling, unlike medallions with more subdued color schemes.
This is a one-of-a-kind item personally acquired by the shop owner directly from the Mohammad Jamshidi Workshop in Qom. You can view the actual luster, botanical dye colors, and details of the small animals and mosque gates in the video. Golestan Persian Carpet Specialty Store.
