Description
The closer you get and the more you squint, the more a pair of lions facing each other from the four corners, and human figures and small buildings emerge from behind them. In the center is a sunburst-shaped medallion. At first glance, it appears to be a medallion pattern, but it's a piece where you can decipher hidden images.
Albar Workshop's Medallion and Lions
This is a work from the Albar workshop, known for the fineness of its weave even among Qum rugs. In the center is an 8-pointed sunburst medallion reminiscent of a lotus flower, and in the four corners, pairs of lions, human figures, and buildings resembling crowns and mosques are woven into the "rachak" (corners). The field features a detailed floral pattern on a navy and brown ground, and the border is lined with large boteh patterns. With its unique composition, positioned between a "medallion" and a "hunting scene," this piece strongly retains elements of classical Persian storytelling.
The Precision and Luster Unique to Silk
Because it is made of fine 100% silk threads, the expressions of the lions, the outlines of the figures, and even the towers of the buildings are discernible. The teal medallion subtly changes its expression depending on the angle of the light, which is also unique to silk.
How to Incorporate It into Your Home
Measuring 98x151cm, it's the perfect size for an accent rug in the living room, a reception area, at the foot of a bed in the bedroom, or in the center of a hallway. Due to its strong narrative quality, many people also choose to frame it as a wall decoration. Because silk is tightly woven, it repels fine dust, is less prone to static electricity, and daily maintenance only requires vacuuming.
A one-of-a-kind item selected from Qum. You can see the actual luster and detailed hidden images in the video. Golestan, a specialty store for Persian carpets.
