Description
When unfurled in a reception room, a dark red background reveals a central medallion and four corner "lachaks," with the space between them densely filled with "eslimi" (curvilinear vines) and multicolored flowers. This piece elegantly brings together a classic medallion composition.
Medallion and Arabesque by Mir Mehedi Workshop
This is a work from the Mir Mehedi workshop, known for its delicate weaving even among Qum rugs. A central medallion and four corner "lachaks" (corner emblems) are arranged on a deep, dark red (ruby) field, with "eslimi" (flowing curvilinear vines) and multicolored floral patterns densely woven throughout the entire field. The border features a series of small, circular medallions, which emphasize the movement of the field. This piece is a typical example of the classic medallion + arabesque composition, finished in a deep reddish-purple hue.
The Intricacy and Sheen Unique to Silk
Because of the fine 100% silk threads, every detail of the medallion, the vines in the field, and the small medallions in the border can be discerned. The way the deep red subtly changes its expression with the angle of the light is also unique to silk.
How to Incorporate into Your Life
Measuring 107x162cm, this rug is the perfect size for a reception room or at the foot of a bed in a bedroom, as a runner in a hallway, or framed as a wall hanging. The deep, dark red adds warmth to a room and is easy to match with both Japanese and Western-style interiors.
This is a one-of-a-kind item selected from Qum. You can see the actual luster and intricate details in the video. Golestan, a specialty store for Persian carpets.
