This piece is from the Nouri workshop, known for its fine weaving among Qom silk carpets. It combines the classical "Lachak o Tranj" (corner + medallion) composition with a soft cream ground, a deep wine red medallion, and a gorgeous gold border. Delicate floral arabesques cover the entire field, and pink rose cartouches are placed in the four corners. It's a piece with a subdued color palette that reveals increasing intricacy the closer you look.

The Fineness and Luster Unique to Silk

Because it is woven with fine, tightly packed 100% silk threads, you can discern the slender stems of the floral arabesques in the ground, the small flowers in the center of the medallion, the roses in the four corners, and the continuous floral pattern of the border. The cream color gains luster with the angle of the light, and the gold border appears to float, creating an expression unique to silk. The impression changes depending on the direction it's laid, due to the difference in appearance between the nap and reverse nap.
